Healthy (and Easy) Eating Tips for Employees

The current health and fitness trends provide big opportunities for promoting wellness within the workplace. We perused the web and found some places where you can go to for information that would be useful to blog about, post or provide to employees as healthy tips.

One of the more interesting places is the health.gov site. One it you can find the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020 published by the government this year. This is a useful document that encourages better eating habits and provides a flexible framework in which people can think about food in a different and healthier way while still working within their budget.

The report provides eating guidelines and includes pages that detail each tip and provides sample meals to address each time. The key guidelines are:

  1. Follow a healthy eating pattern across the life lifespan.
  2. Focus on variety, nutrient density, and amount.
  3. Limit calories from added sugars and saturated fats and reduce sodium intake.
  4. Shift to heather food and beverages choices.

The report also includes recommendations that define what a healthy eating pattern includes as well as what a health eating pattern limits. The latter section details some of the key things such as saturated fats, salt lists (consume less that 2,300 milligrams per day!) .

This report is available in an executive summary of seven pages that makes for a short hand out or PDF to copy and send out.
